The Team

Dr Andrew Lok MBBS (QLD)

I was sent to Australia in 1977 on a one way ticket from Hong Kong. Fortunately Australia was very kind to me and I graduated with medical degree from University of Queensland in 1984.

I established my solo general practice in Karana Downs in 1988.

I’ve had a wonderful time working in the area since then and I’ve been truly humbled by being so accepted and supported from the local community.

I provide a broad range of general practice services from child health to all childhood vaccinations, women’s health service from pap smears to antenatal care, all aspects of men’s health issues, chronic disease management e.g. diabetes, asthma, heart disease, complex chronic pain conditions, and weight management. I have the skill set and equipment for comprehensive skin check and skin cancer treatments if required, including cryotherapy and surgical excision. I can support palliative care patients and I also offer home visits for my own patients during and outside surgery hours.

I have a particular interest in mental health. It is my belief that the best way to treat most mental health conditions is not just by a doctor but with a highly skilled and experienced mental health team. This is particularly relevant in a primary care level as more can be done and done well before the condition progresses to a severe level. Early intervention is usually most desirable.

Dr Matt Despot MBBS (QLD)

I have been a medical practitioner for some 36 years.

I was born and bred on my family’s cane farm located outside Innisfail, North Queensland.

After completing my studies at the University of Qld, I spent a lifetime as an emergency practitioner and, more recently, as a rural generalist and a general practitioner.

I have worked all over Qld, including most major cities and Cape York. For over 25 years, I was an Emergency Medicine practitioner at Logan public hospital. Feeling the need to return to country practice, in the last 10 years, I have been working as a rural generalist practitioner. This work has taken me to such places as Queenstown, Tasmania and Kingsthorpe (outside Toowoomba). In addition to this, I also worked in a specialised skin clinic in Singleton, NSW.

To ensure that I am always up to date, I attend regular training programmes. I am fully competent to deal with all conditions that present themselves in general practice including; mental health, skin, women’s health and chronic conditions. Given my lengthy emergency experience, I am also competent in treating urgent cases such as; cardiac arrests, asthma and anaphylaxis. I still maintain a passion and interest in medicine and, most importantly, in giving the best care to my patients. I am joining Dr. Lok because the time is now right for me to work within my community.

I have lived in the Karana Downs locality for nearly 20 years and have no intention of leaving. I have always been invested in the community: with my children having attended kindergarten at Mt. Crosby as well as Mt. Crosby State School before going WESTMAC for high school. I live on acreage with my wife, children and a menagerie of animals. Outside work, I enjoy the simple things: working on my property, model aircraft flying and just enjoying living in this very special part of the world.

Alexis Dennehy

MPH (Global Health) BHSc (CM) AdvDipNAT DipREM DipNUT

I am a Remedial Massage Therapist and Yoga Therapist with a Master of Public Health, specialising in Women’s Health and Trauma.

I opened One Natural Therapies in 2003 in the heart of the CBD where I worked for the first 15-years with individuals and organisations mostly in the legal, finance and government sectors.

One-on-one and with groups I’ve used predominantly Yoga Therapy for management of stress, hormones, weight, inflammation and pain.  I get best results using a combination of Structural Alignment & Neuromuscular-Junction Rehabilitation using breath and trigger point release. I acted as a birth consultant for many years, training couples to use Hypnobirthing, Active birth & PeriNatal Yoga for a body-friendly birth experience.

I was fortunate enough to complete my Post-Graduate Research at The Faculty of Medicine at The University of Queensland, Herston. My Masters Program was a thematic analysis of the peri-natal period through The Institute of Health & Biomedical Innovation.

I was then invited to complete a Summer Scholarship at The Institute for Social Science Research on ‘Educational experiences of children with chronic and acute conditions..’

Since the early 2020’s, I’ve held practice in medical centres and physiotherapy clinics, alongside GPs, Physiotherapists and Psychologists.  I am committed to high-quality, evidence-informed, patient-centred care.

Recently, thanks to the generosity of family, close friends, colleagues and community members, I launched Brisbane’s FIRST & ONLY Burnout- & Trauma- Care Clinic. In it, you’ll learn to personally heal deep wounding and prevent unconscious reactivity playing out in your life.  You’ll also gain first-hand experience in Sustainable Practice; a unique synthesis of the lineage of teachings of embodiment practices.

Graduates of The Burnout- & Trauma- Care Clinic are given the opportunity to join my Sustainable-Now Community Conversations in which you’ll apply the principles of Structural Burnout- & Trauma- Care to your work- & home- life.
